Lappin Named CCIW Defensive Player of the Week

Notched IWU’s first pick-six since 2023 in win at Augie

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University football junior defensive back Lucas Lappin (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Lake Zurich) was selected as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's Defensive Player of the Week Monday, Sept. 21. Lappin earned the honor for the first time in his career while representing IWU's third weekly award-winner of the season.

The Lake Zurich, Ill. native put together a stout defensive performance in Illinois Wesleyan's 17-10 win at Augustana, Sept. 19. Lappin finished with 11 tackles and a pick-six as IWU soared to 3-0 for the first time since 2015. Lappin's interception return for a touchdown was the first by a Titan since Nov. 11, 2023.

For the season, Lappin is slotted seventh in interceptions with the Titans defense ranking second across Division III with eight.

Illinois Wesleyan gears up for a battle with No. 2 Wheaton College Saturday, Sept. 26, inside Tucci Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
