Certa Tabbed CCIW’s Pitcher of the Week

Sixth weekly award of her career

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University softball senior pitcher Gianna Certa (Third Lake, Ill.-Grayslake North) collected College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Pitcher of the Week status the league office announced Monday afternoon, April 6. It is the first weekly award by a Titan this season and the sixth of Certa's career.

Certa made three appearances in a 4-0 week for the Titans, March 31-April 3. She went 2-0 on the week with a pair of complete games, including a shutout. The senior righty pitched 14.0 total innings on a 1.00 earned run average with just two runs allowed on the week as the Third Lake, Ill. native struck out 10.

Certa started the week with a complete game win at North Central, March 31, pitching through multiple hour-long lightning delays while striking out a season-high seven. She followed with two clutch innings in relief in game one at Wheaton. Certa's week came to an end with a five-inning complete game shutout of the Thunder.

Illinois Wesleyan is scheduled to play Augustana College Friday, April 10, in a twin bill in Rock Island, Ill. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
