Men’s Tennis Sweeps Ripon

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team swept Ripon College, 7-0, Saturday, March 7 at Evergreen Racquet Club. The Titans improve to 6-3, while Ripon falls to 3-12.

IWU breezed through the doubles session with the top tandem of seniors Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) and Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter) earning a 6-0 win over Caleb Sippel and Kyle Flook. At two doubles, junior Thad Dillow (Effingham, Ill.-Effingham) and Griffin Hammond (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora) took down Ryan Richter and Austin Stevens, 6-2. Freshmen Will Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and Truman Raher (Peoria, Ill.-Richwoods) completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory against Emerson Hendricks and Corey Mooney.

In singles action, Vigneri earned his second victory while playing on the top line this season with a 7-6 (6), 6-1 triumph over Sippel. Dillow cruised by Stevens in straight sets at the second singles spot, 6-0, 6-0. Hammond continued the winning ways at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mooney. Ehrlich joined the straight set parade with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Flook. At five singles, Raher won 6-2, 6-4 against Richter. Junior Chase Tomecki (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove South) rounded out the sweep, winning 6-2, 6-2 against Ethan Tines.

The Titans are back in action tomorrow, March 8, against Lawrence University. First serve from Evergreen Racquet Club is scheduled for 1 p.m.
