Titans Face Big Blue in Saturday Showdown

Doubleheader begins at 12 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team returns to Bloomington to finish its home-and-home series with No. 22 Millikin University Saturday, March 28, at Horenberger Field. First pitch of the double feature will be thrown at 12 p.m., with the second contest tentatively scheduled for 3 p.m. IWU rolls into its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin home opener with a 4-12 overall mark, and is 1-0 in conference action, while MU holds a 15-5 record, and is 0-1 in CCIW play.

The Green and White opened up the CCIW slate topping the Big Blue, 7-2, Wednesday March 25, behind the back of a strong start from senior Cole Shamhart (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest). Following the win yesterday, IWU leads the series 84-41 and has won four straight games against Millikin. In the series, the Titans have doubled up the Big Blue at home, holding a 40-20 advantage at Jack Horenberger Field

With three more hits Wednesday, sophomore AJ Weller (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo) improved his batting average to a team-best .381. He has also knocked 24 hits with a trio of triples. Junior John Philip Ferraro (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) used two runs batted in to boost his RBI lead to 16 on the squad. The lefty is hitting .349 with seven doubles and 22 hits. The Illinois Wesleyan offense has been on a tear over the last five games. The Titan bats have scored 38 runs over the span leading to its three straight wins.

On the hill for IWU, senior Will Davidsmeier (Virginia, Ill.-Beardstown) holds a 5.06 earned run average. In his last outing against University Wisconsin-Oshkosh, the righty tossed six innings giving up just one hit on three runs. Sophomore Cole Benson (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) joins Davidsmeier and Shamhart with 21.1 innings pitched. Benson recorded the Friday start against UW-Oshkosh, going 4.2 innings. Out of the bullpen, sophomore Brennan Tomhave's (Pittsfield, Ill.-Pittsfield) five appearances leads the squad, as he has struck out 14 in 12.1 innings. 

IWU and Millikin will complete its series Saturday, March 28, with a twin-bill at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Live stats will be available here, with a live stream here.
