BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team keeps the wheels spinning on its 14-game road trip with a spring break visit to Spalding University, Saturday-Sunday, March 14-15. The Titans and Golden Eagles will compete in a doubleheader at 12 p.m. ET Saturday with a single game scheduled for 1 p.m. ET Sunday at Derby City Field.

IWU (1-8) heads to Louisville, Ky. after a series with No. 12 WashU in which it dropped all three contests. The Green and White won its opening game of the year finishing off Greenville University as Spalding (4-5) swept GU over the weekend, taking all three matchups, plating a combined 33 runs. Following the sweep of Greenville, the Golden Eagles topped Transylvania 3-2 in a midweek matchup Tuesday, March 10.

Sophomore AJ Weller (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo) leads the Titans in batting average, .441. Weller, the only Titan hitting above .400, has accounted for a team-best 15 hits and four doubles, while driving in seven runs. Junior John Phillip Ferraro (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest ) follows suit with an average of .378 and is the only Titan with double-digit RBI's. Ferraro shares the team-lead with four doubles and 10 singles in 37 at-bats.

A bright spot for the Illinois Wesleyan pitching staff has been sophomore Cole Benson (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest). Benson has gone five innings twice in his three starts, giving up just one run against Greenville, and three against WashU. Senior Will Davidsmeier (Virginia, Ill.-Beardstown) brings the lowest earned run average to the team at 5.23. In three appearances, the right-hander has appeared from the bullpen twice going three innings in both, allowing just a run.

Illinois Wesleyan and Spalding will meet for the first time when the opening pitch is thrown Saturday. Spalding's Caleb Coffey is coming off a monstrous weekend against the Panthers in which he notched nine hits in 15 at-bats. Coffey leads SU in all offensive categories with 16 hits, 10 RBI's, three home runs, and a .444 batting average. SU also returns Cameron Rayborn from a year ago. Rayborn earned St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week Feb. 23 and has pitched to a 3.32 ERA.

Illinois Wesleyan and Spalding will begin the twin bill at 12 p.m. ET Saturday with another contest to follow. First pitch of the series finale will take place at 12 p.m. ET Sunday.
