Vigneri Earns CCIW Player of the Week

Second weekly honor for IWU men’s tennis this season

NAPERVILLE, Ill.- Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis senior Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter) earned his first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Player of the Week award Tuesday, March 10, announced by the league office. 

This is the first CCIW honor of Vigneri's career, and the second for IWU this season. He joins fellow senior Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington), who claimed the award Feb. 23.

Vigneri played a vital role in Illinois Wesleyan's pair of wins this past weekend. Against Ripon College, Saturday, March 7, he and Turnbull blanked Caleb Sippel and Kyle Flook, 6-0 at the top doubles spot. Vigneri followed with a 7-6 (6), 6-1 win over Sippel at No. 1 singles. The next day against Lawrence University, Vigneri and Turnbull won 6-0 over Ben Hoppe and Gabriel Garcia. In singles play, the Wyoming native won 6-2, 6-1 against Hoppe.

The Titans are back in action Sunday, March 15, against Coe College in the first match of their spring break trip in Orlando, Fla. Results will be posted on iwusports.com upon the completion of the match.
