BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - One day after reeling in a weekly award from the conference office, Illinois Wesleyan University football's junior punter Matt Worthington (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Lake Zurich) was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week Tuesday morning, Oct. 13. The only punter in program history to ever land on the national team of the week, he snagged the distinction for the second time in his career.

Worthington is the third Titan to garner D3football recognition this season, joining Joey DeMaio (Sept. 15) and Will Nazha (Oct. 6). This year's three honorees are the most since the 2022 campaign when Kevin Graham, Frank Roti (twice), and Anthony Wachal Jr. combined for four selections. Overall, he represents the program's 20th all-time selection. He along with defensive lineman Mike Murphy and Roti are the only Titans with multiple selections in a career. Murphy was a four-time pick during his career, while Roti earned honors as a linebacker as well as for his special teams efforts.

Worthington continued to show why he is the top punter in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin at Carroll, Oct. 10. The junior was called upon just twice in a 44-7 rout of the Pios but flipped the field with two big punts. He averaged 66.5 yards per boot with a 67-yarder followed by a 66-yarder. His two punts against Carroll represent the first and second-longest, respectively, across the CCIW this season.

For the season, he leads the conference at 44.9 yards per punt. Worthington also paces the CCIW with seven punts of 50+ yards and ranks second with seven punts inside the 20.

The Titans are back in action with a second straight road game this Saturday, Oct. 17, as IWU travels to Millikin University. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Frank M. Lindsay Field.
