BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University men's wrestling team fell to Simpson College 35-16, Friday, Jan. 30 at the Shirk Center.
At 125 pounds, freshman Brady Mouser (Bloomington, Ill.-Tri-Valley) earned four first period takedowns. He added a four-point takedown at the end of the second period to win via a technical fall, 23-7, over Brody Hufford.
Freshman Tyson Zvonar (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) led 6-1 at the end of the first period against Nich Silva at 133 pounds. He booked a three-point takedown early in the third period to take an 11-2 advantage. With the riding time point, the Frankfort, Ill. native won 18-3, as the riding time pushed Zvonar to a technical fall, which put the Titans up 10-0.
The Green and White won its third straight match when junior Austin Johnston (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) utilized a takedown, and a near-fall, to take a 7-0 lead after the first period. Early in the second, Johnston pinned Sanchez in 4:07 for his seventh of the season.
The Titans are back in action, Sunday, Feb. 1 when they host Eureka College. Action from the Shirk Center is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will serve as the back end of a doubleheader with the IWU women's wrestling team.
