BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's wrestling team returns to the Shirk Center for a two-meet homestand beginning Friday, Jan. 30 against Simpson College, before facing Eureka College Sunday, Feb. 1. Action is scheduled for 7:30 p.m Friday night and 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
The Titans (2-7, 1-7 CCIW) are coming off of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Duals against Carthage College and Elmhurst University where freshman Tyson Zvonar (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) only needed two minutes to earn his fourth pin of the year, this time over Carthage's Lucas Burgio at 133 pounds. 141-pound junior
Austin Johnston (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) earned two pins. His first was over Evan Glowinski from Carthage. Johnston booked his second pin of the day, needing only 2:25 against Elmhurst's Ulises Rosas, boosting his season total to six pins. Freshmen
Brady Mouser (Bloomington, Ill.-Tri-Valley) and
Trey Dunning (Mishawaka, Ind.-Mishawaka) also collected wins.
Simpson (4-6, 1-5 A-R-C) most recently dropped both of its duals against No. 5 Loras College, 44-6, and No. 12 Luther College, 44-6, Saturday, Jan. 24. Earlier that day, the Storm defeated Nebraska Wesleyan University, 31-20.
On Sunday, Feb. 1, the Green and White take on Eureka (1-1) in the backend of a doubleheader with the IWU women's wrestling team. In the Red Devils' last dual meet, they fell to Aurora University, 43-11, Dec. 17. They last competed in the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational and will face Southeastern Community College, Friday, Jan. 30 before heading to Bloomington.
Last season, Eureka bested Illinois Wesleyan, 40-17. Then-freshman
Evan Carel (Hamilton, Ill.-Hamilton) took down Colton Davis with a 19-4 technical fall. Then-freshman
Lucas Blanton (Dixon, Ill.-Amboy) earned the first pin of his collegiate career.
