BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's wrestling team ventures to Elmhurst, Ill. for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Duals. IWU (2-5, 1-5 CCIW) will compete against Elmhurst University at 1 p.m. and Carthage College at 2:30 p.m.
The Titans are coming off of the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational where freshman Tyson Zvonar (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) led the way with four wins. Sophomore
Ameer Alamawi (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central) along with freshmen
Dylan McGrew (Normal, Ill.-Normal West),
Silas Oberholtzer (Lake Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) and
Jeremiah Austin (Jefferson City, Mo.-Capital City) each earned one win in the tournament.
In its last dual meet, the Green and White beat Buena Vista University, Jan. 2. Illinois Wesleyan picked up wins from freshmen Brady Mouser (Bloomington, Ill. - Tri-Valley), Eli Moore (Highland Park, Ill.-Highland Park), and
Trey Dunning (Mishawaka, Ind.-Mishawaka), along with Alamawi. Zvonar and junior
Austin Johnston (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) joined the winners circle with pins over the Beavers.
At last year's CCIW Duals, the Titans went 1-1. They picked up their first dual win since the program restarted with a 43-12 victory over Concordia University Wisconsin, while dropping their final dual of the day to Elmhurst.
Elmhurst (4-1, 4-1 CCIW) most recently earned a sixth-place finish at the Al Hanke Invitational. The Blue Jays had four wrestlers place, including a top finish from Donovin Fields at 133 pounds. EU dropped its last dual to CCIW leader North Central College, 44-3, Jan. 17. Last season, IWU fell to the Blue Jays, 38-16. Johnston, then-senior Bobby Conroy, and then-sophomore
Alexander Jackson (Harvey, Ill.-Bremen) earned victories for the Titans.
Carthage (2-7, 2-5 CCIW) was defeated by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Jan. 16, 40-3. In their last meeting with the Titans, Jan. 6, 2025, the Firebirds won 41-14. Illinois Wesleyan earned wins from Johnston, Alamawi, and then-freshman Evan Carel (Hamilton, Ill.- Hamilton).
