Robinson’s Brace Powers Titans Comeback to Draw with UW-Platteville

Titans erase two-goal deficit to earn tie

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team earned a 3-3 draw with University of Wisconsin-Platteville in its final non-conference match Saturday, Sept. 27. Trailing 3-1 in the second hal, the Titans used two goals from sophomore Keira Robinson (Bloomington, Ind.-Bloomington South) to take home the tie, moving to 5-4-1 on the season, while UW-Platteville now sits at 5-3-1.

The Green and White were led by Robinson's two scores, while sophomore Emily Kunzer (Elburn, Ill.-Kaneland) net her second goal of the season. Sophomore Ellen Dahlquist (Peoria, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame) assisted on a goal to round out the scoring for the Titans.

Illinois Wesleyan looked in control in the opening half, producing multiple scoring opportunities. After multiple corner kicks were thwarted and UW-Platteville saved a few shots, Kunzer spun and shook off her defender before unleashing a shot from 25 yards out for her second goal of the season in the 42nd minute of the first half. The goal got IWU on the board first, which took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Pioneers leveled the match at one goal apiece, using a free kick to their advantage at the 56th minute mark. UWP net two more goals over the next three minutes to take a 3-1 lead.

A save by sophomore Ella Randall (San Francisco, Calif.-The Bay School of San Francisco) got the Green and White going with just under 30 minutes to play. Driving down the pitch, sophomore Taylor Haun (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) drew a foul within the penalty area to set up a penalty kick. Robinson capitalized on the opportunity, cutting the deficit in half halfway through the 69th minute.

Racing down the pitch, Dahlquist dimed a pass to Robinson, who buried the shot to erase the two-goal deficit in the 78th minute.

With time dwindling down, Illinois Wesleyan looked poised to score after earning three straight corner kicks. The third attempt saw the best chance for the Green and White, but senior Maya Flemming's (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge) scoring attempt was saved with 90 seconds remaining.

The Titans will travel to Carthage College to kickoff College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Saturday, Oct. 4. The match is set for 4 p.m. at Art Keller Field, and will serve as the Firebirds' Senior Day.
