Four Titans Earn Top-10 Finishes

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team claimed top team honors at the IWU Fall Classic Sunday, Sept. 14, at the par 72, 5,823-yard Ironwood Golf Course. The Titans shot a total 595, defeating second-place DePauw University by three strokes to win the event for the first time in the tournament's 25-year history.

Sophomore Gigi Zera (Glenview, Ill.-Loyola Academy) finished in solo third-place after back-to-back rounds of 73. Junior Emily Gastrau (Wauwatosa, Wis.-Wauwatosa East) also recorded a top-10 finish with a total score 150, while sophomore Grace Fagan (St. Louis, Mo.-Visitation Academy) and senior Brooke Erhard (Champaign, Ill.-St. Thomas More) each finished tied for ninth. Erhard tied the best score of her career in the final round, carding a one-over 73.

It was a battle down the stretch, as DePauw's Becky Williams carded a tournament record 29 (six-under) on the back-nine to claim the individual title and push DePauw into potential position to overtake the Titans. Birdies from Erhard down the stretch allowed Illinois Wesleyan to pull ahead and claim the team title by three strokes. DePauw, Dubuque, Aurora, and Trine rounded out the top-five teams.

The Titans are back in action next week, Sunday-Monday, Sept. 28-29, at the UW-Whitewater Fall Invite in Madison, Wis. The tournament is set to be played at TPC Wisconsin.
