Women’s Golf Leads IWU Fall Classic After Round One

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team sits in first place following the first round of the IWU Fall Classic Saturday, Sept. 13, at the par 72, 5,823-yard Ironwood Golf Course. The Titans shot a nine-over 297 and lead the tournament by three strokes.

Junior Emily Gastrau (Wauwatosa, Wis.-Wauwatosa East) recorded a four-under 32 on the back-nine, which featured an eagle and three birdies, to get herself back to even par for the day. Gastrau is one shot back of the lead and sits in a tie for second. Sophomore Gigi Zera (Glenview, Ill.-Loyola Academy) also sits in the top-10 individually after her one-over round of 73.

It was a crowded top of the leaderboard for most of the day before birdies down the stretch from the Green and White catapulted the team into the lead. Following close behind is DePauw and Dubuque in second and third place, respectively. Aurora and Carthage round out the top-five. DePauw's Daisy Williams leads the individual race after her opening round of 71.

The Titans are back in action at Ironwood Golf Course for the final round tomorrow, Sept. 14. The shotgun start is set for 9 a.m.
