GREENWOOD, Ind. - Awards continued to roll in for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Champion Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team, Wednesday, July 9, as the program saw two recognized on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America At-Large teams released by the organization. Junior Billy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) and senior Sam Weinberg (Highwood, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) garnered the prestigious honor, becoming the first set of teammates in program history to receive the award in the same season.

Wednesday's announcement marked the first in their careers of both McHugh and Weinberg, who were each voted to the CSC Academic All-America Third Team. The duo join J.C. Grabarek (2018 & 2019) and Ethan Hart (2024) as the program's all-time selections.

Furthermore, IWU's all-time Academic All-America list now sits at 172, which is top-25 across NCAA Division I, II, and III, as well as top-10 in Division III. To date, 12 Titans have reeled in CSC Academic All-America honors during the 2024-25 academic year, breaking the previous mark of 10 set in 2023-24. The duo joins Quinn Clifford (at-large - men's golf), Griffin Pohl (at-large - men's golf), Juney Bai (at-large - men's golf), Macy Ludwig (at-large - women's golf), Jen Kuhn (softball), Ava Khoury (softball), Nick Roper (men's basketball), Mallory Powers (women's basketball), Lauren Huber (women's basketball), and Kannyn Boyd (women's volleyball) as the 11th and 12th Titans to receive the distinguished honor this academic year. In his first season donning the Green and White, McHugh was an impact player from the get-go for the Titans. The defender was tabbed First Team All-CCIW and United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Blatant Division III All-American Honorable Mention. He accrued 22 caused turnovers, the ninth-most in single season program history, and added 40 ground balls. He totaled 13 points on 10 goals and three helpers, while studying economics and maintaining a 4.00 GPA.

Weinberg, who finished off a strong career in 2025, played in 14 games for the Titans. He notched the third-most goals on the team, scoring 29 times, and posted 11 assists en route to 40 points. His six man-up goals led the team, while he tacked on 34 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. A Second Team All-CCIW honoree, Weinberg graduated with the fifth-most man-up goals in program laurels. He earned his degree in neuroscience, finishing his collegiate career with a 3.83 GPA.

The Titans wrapped up the 2025 season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, finishing with a 14-3 overall record. Illinois Wesleyan completed its seventh consecutive undefeated CCIW schedule (4-0) to claim the regular season title, before going on to win its seventh CCIW Tournament Championship with a 16-13 victory over Elmhurst University. IWU led the conference with nine student-athletes earning All-CCIW honors and Zach Iannucci was named the CCIW Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career.

IWU has now made seven NCAA postseason appearances in its 12 seasons and even made a run to the Elite Eight in 2021. The Titans finished out the season ranked 21st in ground balls per game (40.35), 35th in caused turnovers per game (11.65), and its scoring offense (14.88) sits 29th nationally.
