Men’s Lacrosse Concludes Season in CCIW Tournament Championship

Titans end season 11-7

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team concluded its 2026 season in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament Championship, as the Titans fell, 19-9, at Elmhurst University Saturday, May 2. With the loss, IWU concludes its season with an overall record of 11-7.

Sophomore Jeremy Langosch (Grayslake, Ill.-Warren Township) led the team in scoring, as he finished with three goals and four points. Senior Cole Kennedy (Walnut Creek, Calif.-De La Salle) and junior Timothy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) each tallied two assists, while junior Jake Kahoun (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) notched a pair of goals.

Senior Karsten Nordlie (Roscoe, Ill.-Hononegah Community) led the defense with four caused turnovers, and tied for the team-lead in ground balls alongside sophomore Nick Donohue (Glenview, Ill.-Glenbrook South), and the duo each scooped up three. Senior Billy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) tied his brother with two caused turnovers apiece.

Facing one of the best faceoff guys in the country, senior Michael Rocco (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) went 7-of-18 at the X, while sophomore Matt Arnold (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Prospect) added three wins.

The Blue Jays raced out to a 2-0 advantage before senior Noah Dretzka (Delafield, Wis.-Kettle Moraine) put the Titans on the board with 11:05 left in the first quarter. Less than a minute later, Donahue picked off a pass, starting a sequence that led to the first equalizer of the game from sophomore Owen Miller (Brookfield, Wis.-Brookfield Central)

Before the midpoint of the first period, EU and IWU traded goals, with Langosch finding the twine for the titans off a pass from Kennedy, tying the game at 3-3 with 8:58 left in the opening period.

Two goals in the last minute of play put the Bluejays up 5-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Elmhurst jumped out with three straight goals to begin the second, but Rocco won a faceoff to get IWU's offense the ball. The Green and White made quick work of the possession, as Rocco sent a pass to Timothy McHugh who found sophomore Ethan Cavanaugh (Davis, Calif.-Davis Senior) cutting towards the net. Cavanaugh snapped his long pole for his first goal of the season to stop the run and make it 9-4.

After Elmhurst tacked on two more, the Titans used a faceoff violation to their advantage. Kennedy hit Kahoun with a pass near the crease, cutting the lead to six, 11-5.

The Bluejays net one more to take a 12-5 lead into halftime.

Illinois Wesleyan looked poised for a comeback, as Langosch ripped in back-to-back goals to bring the gap to five, 12-7, but the Titans could never close in any further, ultimately falling, 19-9.

The loss closes the remarkable careers of seniors Kade Miers (Cincinnati, Ohio-St. Xavier), Billy McHugh, Andres Morales-Gomez (Round Lake Beach, Ill.-Grayslake North), Karsten Nordlie, Sam Scott (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington), Mitchell Breza (Victoria, Minn.-Chanhassen), Kaden Gammelgaard (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Lake Zurich), Noah Dretzka, Cole Kennedy, and Michael Rocco. Together, the group won three CCIW regular season and tournament championships, made three NCAA tournaments, and amassed a record of 54-18.
