PEORIA, Ill. - Junior Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) put together quite a performance on day two of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship Friday, May 2, at WeaverRidge Golf Club. Spitzer set the conference tournament record while the fifth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team extended its lead at the three-day event. The Titans fired an eight-under, 280 for the second straight day to lead the field by 26 strokes.

Five birdies and an eagle saw Spitzer finish one stroke off the program's single round record. The junior carded a seven-under 65 to move into first-place individually with a two-day total of 138. It is the lowest score by a player at the conference championship since IWU's Ryan Dorner shot a six-under 66 at the 2009 rendition.

Senior Griffin Pohl (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township) is on Spitzer's heels at 139 after going even on the day, while senior Quinn Clifford (Chicago, Ill.-Brother Rice) ranks tied for third. Clifford shot a second round 72 to push his total to 141.

Juniors Juney Bai (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central) and Aidan Healy (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way West) also hold top-10 positioning heading into the final round. Bai is tied for fifth with a 36-hole tally of 143 (71-72). Healy fired a one-under, 71 to grab a share of ninth at 145.
