Women’s Golf Finishes Strong at NCAA Division III National Championship

O’Neill cards best round of her career in final round

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team finished off its season with its best round of the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship Friday, May 16, as the Titans placed 15th. The Green and White carded an 11-over par 299, the fourth-best round of the day, to conclude the tournament with a 72-hole total of 1222. 

Illinois Wesleyan saw three individuals finish inside the top-100. Senior Jacque O'Neill (Harbor Springs, Mich.-Harbor Springs) carded the best round of her career, firing a one-under 71. Competing in the final tournament of her collegiate career, O'Neill grabbed a share of 38th at 16-over par (304). Sharing 38th-place was also freshman Gigi Zera (Glenview, Ill.-Loyola Academy), who put together a strong performance in her national tournament debut. Zera turned in a three-over 75 in the final round to finish with a score of 304.

Senior Macy Ludwig (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony) also turned in a 75, finishing three-over in the final round of her sensational career. Ludwig totaled 307 on the week (81-75-76-75). 

Second-ranked Emory took home the team title with a four-day total of 1168, while Carnegie Mellon placed runner-up at 1181. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (1195), George Fox (1203), and WashU (1206) took third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. Emory's Carys Code went three-under for the tournament en route to medalist honors as one of three players in the field to finish par-or-better.
