Men’s Golf in Control Through 18 Holes at CCIW Championship

Pohl, Clifford 1-2 after opening round

PEORIA, Ill. - Three Titans carded rounds of par-or-better to power the fourth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team to an eight-stroke lead at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship Thursday, May 1. IWU fired an opening round 280 on the par-72, 6876-yard WeaverRidge Golf Club.

Pacing the Titans was the senior duo of Griffin Pohl (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township) and Quinn Clifford (Chicago, Ill.-Brother Rice). Pohl leads the player leaderboard by two strokes after turning in a five-under 67. Clifford is in second at 69, shooting three-under par. 

Also carding a red score was junior Juney Bai (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central). Bai posted a 71 to sit sixth at one-under.

The Titans carry an eight-stroke cushion into day two with a first round total of 280. Millikin sits second with a score of 288 and Wheaton is third at 297. North Central (300) and Augustana (304) round out the top-five. 

Second round action is set for tomorrow, May 2, beginning at 8:30 a.m. IWU will tee off second round play starting at 10:10 a.m.
