Baseball to Celebrate Seniors on Saturday

Senior recognition starts at 11:30 a.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Currently running on a six-game win streak, the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team will take on non-conference DePauw University, Saturday, April 26. The IWU baseball team will honor its 13 seniors at 11:30 a.m., followed by the game one first pitch at noon. The Titans and the Tigers will play in a doubleheader at Jack Horenberger Field at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. 

Thirteen seniors will be celebrated including Tyler Woltman (Wheaton, Ill.-Wheaton North), Jimmy Gurgone (Mokena, Ill.-St. Laurence), Brady Hartman (Milan, Ill.-Sherrard), Sebastian Edenhofer (Elmhurst, Ill.-York), Tristan Figus (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Buffalo Grove), Luke Schwab (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove South), Dalen Banks (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield), Casey Swanson (Minooka, Ill.-Minooka), Nate Carlson (Palatine, Ill.-St. Viator), Cade Tomhave (Pittsfield, Ill.-Pittsfeild), Justin Gadomski (Schaumburg, Ill.-Schaumburg), William Duff (Western Springs, Ill.-St. Ignatius). Junior Jimmy Martin (Western Springs, Ill.-Fenwick) will also be honored as he is moving on with a special physics program where he attends three years at Illinois Wesleyan and another three years at Washington University in St. Louis. 

The Titans (20-12, 12-4 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), recently took down CCIW foe Millikin University Tuesday, April 22. IWU downed MU 3-2 in nine innings. Junior Jake Pullam (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) got the start on the mound for IWU, throwing for six innings and striking out seven to be credited with his fifth win of the season. Junior Luke Costello (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove South) picked up the save out of the bullpen, throwing for three innings and striking out three. 

The Green and White currently sits second in the conference behind Carthage College. IWU holds the No. 1 spot in overall batting average (.338), but trails CC in pitching and fielding. Tomhave, for several weeks in a row, still sits in first for batting average with a .415. Gadomski is second with a .401. Tomhave also owns the top mark in on base percentage at .524, while Gadomski holds the top place in hits (59) and doubles (23). Pullam sits second in earned run average at 2.62, behind Millikin's Nolan Reiman with a 1.70. 

IWU and DU have seen each other 16 times, dating back to 1988, with the Titans taking the upper hand at 11-5 overall. The Green and White and the Tigers took an 11-year gap between 1998 and 2009 before meeting on the field again. Since 2009, IWU has held a slim 3-2 record, going back and forth on wins and losses.
