Four Titans in Top-20 as IWU Takes Second at Cardinal Classic

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. - Completing its final regular season tournament of the season, the 18th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team took runner up at the Cardinal Classic. Playing through gusting winds, the Titans carded a 322 at Bolingbrook Golf Club Tuesday, April 22, to finish with a two-day total of 639.

Fourth-ranked WashU topped the field with a 36-hole score of 615, finishing the event off with a final round 299. Aurora rounded out the top-three at 652, while Lake Forest placed fourth (672). Carthage climbed into fifth to finish with a score of 674. WashU's Amy Beanblossom went even on the day to total a five-over 149 for the tournament and earn medalist honors atop the 77-player leaderboard.

Senior Jacque O'Neill (Harbor Springs, Mich.-Harbor Springs) tied for second as she paced the Titans at with a score of 155. It is the sixth top-five performance of her career. Senior Macy Ludwig (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony) grabbed seventh-place (76-82=158), while sophomore Emily Gastrau (Wauwatosa, Wis.-Wauwatosa East) and freshman Grace Fagan (Kirkwood, Mo.-Visitation Academy) also notched top-15 finishes. Gastrau took home a share of 11th (80-81=161) and Fagan tied for 14th (85-80=165).

Illinois Wesleyan now turns its attention to the NCAA Division III Women's Golf National Championship as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's automatic qualifier. The national tournament is set for May 13-16 at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.
