O’Neill & Ludwig Lead Cardinal Classic Through Day One

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. - Seniors Jacque O'Neill (Harbor Springs, Mich.-Harbor Springs) and Macy Ludwig (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony) are tied atop the 77-player leaderboard as the 18th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team is one stroke back after 18 holes at the Cardinal Classic. The Green and White posted an opening round 317 on the par-72, 5630-yard Bolingbrook Golf Club Monday, April 21.

Illinois Wesleyan is one stroke off the lead held by No. 4 WashU (316). Aurora sits third at 322, followed by North Central (333) and Lake Forest (339).

O'Neill and Ludwig share the lead individually following four-over 76s. O'Neill played even golf over her final 11 holes, including a birdie on No. 7, to finish the day tied for first. Ludwig also finished the day strong, using birdies on No. 3 and No. 5 to go two-under over her final seven holes and keep pace with O'Neill.

Sophomore Emily Gastrau (Wauwatosa, Wis.-Wauwatosa East) and freshman Grace Fagan (Kirkwood, Mo.-Visitation Academy) are also in the top-20 after 18 holes. Gastrau turned in an eight-over 80 in seventh-place, while Fagan ranks tied for 16th (85).

Final round action is slated for tomorrow, with a shotgun start scheduled for 9 a.m. Live scoring can be found via the Scoreboard powered by Clippd.
