BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After a 4-0 week, the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team is set to play a two-game midweek stint. IWU (19-12, 11-4 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) will take on CCIW foe Millikin University at home, Tuesday, April 22 at 5 p.m. followed by a game against Division I Eastern Illinois University Wednesday, April 23 at 3 p.m. in Charleston, Ill.

The Green and White started last week off with a win against North Central, where it downed the Cardinals 9-3, and then swept a series with Wheaton College with scores of 14-13, 6-4, and 11-8. Game one saw extra innings where freshman Matt Hudik (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) knocked in the game-winning run. Illinois Wesleyan also came back in game three, when it trailed 7-3 going into the sixth inning, but a late rally saw IWU claim an 11-8 victory. Game three featured offensive triumphs from senior Justin Gadomski (Schaumburg, Ill.–Schaumburg) and junior Gage Wolfe (Bloomington, Ill.–Bloomington), both going 3-for-5. Gadomski roped two doubles, drove in a run, and scored once, while Wolfe added a double and tallied two RBIs. Sophomore John Philip Ferraro (Oak Park, Ill.–Oak Park River Forest) also chipped in with a 2-for-4 performance and scored a run.

IWU and MU (15-17, 5-8 CCIW) have an extensive relationship dating back to 1988, with the Titans taking the overall record of 81-41. Millikin has won 11 of the last 15 matches, but Illinois Wesleyan claimed the most recent meeting, 7-2, April 3, 2025. The Green and White's starting pitcher, junior Jake Pullam (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine), delivered a dominant performance on the mound, recording three strikeouts over seven innings to earn the win and improve his record to 4-0. In relief, juniors Jack Flagg (River Forest, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) and Cole Shamhart (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) each threw one inning, with Shamhart striking out two. At the plate, senior Tristan Figus (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Buffalo Grove) had an impressive outing, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Ferraro launched a home run and drove in three against the Big Blue.

The Green and White have a shorter history with EIU (19-17), only dating back to 2022. EIU is currently on a four game win streak, playing Butler University, Tuesday, April 22. The Panthers most recently swept Tennessee Tech 8-6, 7-6, and 6-1. IWU is 0-2 to EIU all-time, most recently playing March 29, 2023 and losing 24-0 in seven innings.

Illinois Wesleyan currently sits second in the conference standings behind Carthage College. The Titans have the upper hand in batting average over the Firebirds (.341-.319), but CC has the first place spot in both ERA (4.59) and fielding (.980). Senior Cade Tomhave (Pittsfield, Ill.-Pittsfield) and Gadomski sit at No. 1 and 2 in conference standings in batting average with Tomhave at .421, and Gadomski at .410.
