Men’s Tennis Falls to Millikin

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis dropped its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin bout with Millikin University, falling 6-1 Wednesday, April 16. The loss drops the Titans to 5-11 overall, 1-4 in conference contests, while Millikin improves to 8-7 (1-4 CCIW).

Juniors Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) and Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) took the win at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-3, but IWU was unable to snag another win in paired play, dropping the one-point decision.

Illinois Wesleyan's lone win came at No. 1 singles. Turnbull stayed hot, winning in the top singles spot behind set scores of 6-2, 6-3. The Titans could not muster any more wins, and dropped two super tiebreakers, as Vigneri came up short at No. 2 singles, and sophomore Thad Dillow (Effingham, Ill.-Effingham) was narrowly defeated in the No. 4 spot. After taking his opening set, 6-4, Vigneri dropped the second, 6-1, and lost a heartbreaker in the super tiebreaker, 11-9. Dillow defeated his opponent 6-4 to open the contest, but fell 6-4 in the following set. The sophomore could not squeak out the win, falling 10-3.

The Titans hit the road to North Central College for a CCIW clash Saturday, April 19. Action is set to begin at 10 a.m. at Naperville Tennis Club.
