Titans to play rescheduled match against Big Blue

4/15/2025 2:00:00 PM

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After inclement weather pushed back the original date, March 29, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team will face College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Millikin University Wednesday, April 16, at 3:30 p.m. at Evergreen Racquet Club. The Titans (5-10, 1-3 CCIW) look to rebound after two losses to CCIW opponents over the weekend.

IWU most recently fell to Carthage College, 7-0, Saturday, April 12. Junior Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) narrowly fell at No. 1 singles. After winning the opening set, 6-4, Turnbull fell in the second, 6-2, and dropped the super tiebreaker, 10-8.

Illinois Wesleyan will meet Millikin (7-7, 0-4 CCIW) for the 24th time since 1990. The Green and White hold a 14-9 edge in the series, and snapped an eight-match losing skid against the Big Blue a season ago. IWU walked away with a 6-3 victory April 6, 2024. The Titans swept paired play to jump out to a strong advantage in the match. Turnbull and then-senior Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows) kicked off doubles play with an 8-7(4) victory at the top spot. In the No. 2 slot, then-sophomore Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) and partner Zeke Cross picked up the win with a score of 8-4, and a default rounded out the sweep. The Titans were awarded the win at No. 3 doubles due to default. Turnbull took his No. 1 singles dual with set scores of 7-5, 6-2. IWU won a pair of singles sports via defaults to secure the win. MU most recently fell to Carroll University, 4-3, Saturday, April 12.

Results will be posted on iwusports.com upon the completion of the match.
