Women’s Golf Strong on Opening Day of WashU Spring Invite

Second round canceled due to rain

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -
The 18th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team finished third after 18 holes of play at the WashU Spring Invite. The Titans carded an opening round 300 Saturday, March 22, and were seven strokes off the lead, while the IWU 'B' team is fifth with a score of 306. Second round play was canceled due to significant amounts of rain, prematurely ending the tournament after 18 holes.


IWU was led by the senior tandem of Jacque O'Neill (Harbor Springs, Mich.-Harbor Springs) and Jadyn Spinks (Bloomington, Ill.-University High), who each fired one-over 72s to tie for second.

Sophomore Nora Cerroni (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha North), freshman Grace Fagan (Kirkwood, Mo.-Visitation Academy), and senior Claire Ancevicius (Homer Glen, Ill.-Lockport Township), all placed inside the top-15 as the leader's behind the Titans' 'B' team. Ceronni tied for fifth at 73, while Fagan grabbed a share of 13th with a score of 75. Ancevicius tied for 16th with score of 76. 

Grinnell led the field with a score of 293, while UW-Stout took second at 298. IWU finished third with a score of 300, while third-ranked WashU ended in fourth (303). Illinois Wesleyan's 'B' team grabbed fifth with a score of 306, while Grinnell's Kavya Keshav topped the player leaderboard at five-under par.

WGCA Coaches Poll
The Women's Golf Coaches Association released its latest set of rankings Friday, March 21, with IWU slotted 17th in the poll with 219 points. Carnegie Mellon topped the poll with 18 first-place votes and 590 points. Emory ranked second with three top-spot votes and 568 points, while WashU held No. 3 (544).
