Baseball Embarks on Road Trip for Two Games at Wabash, One Game at Home

Double header Saturday, followed by single game Sunday

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team will travel to Crawfordsville, Ind. for a doubleheader against Wabash University Saturday, March 22. The Titans and Little Giants will then square off at Horenberger Field, Sunday, March 23, to close out the weekend series. 
 
The Green and White is coming off a home-opening victory where IWU took on Principia University. The Titans defeated the Panthers 21-0 in seven innings via the mercy rule in the highest-scoring performance since 2024. 

Senior Dalen Banks (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield) secured his third win on the mound, striking out seven batters and allowing just one hit in five innings. 

On the offensive side, four Titans finished the game with multiple hits, in a game that saw 18 total hits from the Green and White. Junior Jack Flagg (River Forest, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) and sophomore John Phillip Ferraro (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) both hit their second home run of the year, while senior Tyler Woltman (Wheaton, Ill.-Wheaton North) and junior Gage Wolfe (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) tallied three RBIs each.

Illinois Wesleyan leads the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin in overall batting average with a .328, with Carthage in pursuit of the No. 1 spot with a .309. Wolfe leads the conference individually with a .500, immediately followed by senior Cade Tomhave (Pittsfield, Ill.-Pittsfield) with a .459. Wolfe also leads in on-base percentage (.606), and sacrifice bunts (3). 

IWU and Wabash have a history dating back to 2000. The Titans trail in the all-time series record, 5-8, with the Little Giants winning the series last season, 2-1. Illinois Wesleyan won the first game of the doubleheader March 23, 2024. Then-sophomore Will Davidsmeier (Virginia, Ill.-Beardstown) snagged his second win of the year with then-junior Justin Gadomski (Schaumburg, Ill.-Schaumburg) pacing the Titans going 2-4 with two RBIs.
