BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After an 11 game road streak, the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team will play its first game at home against Principia College, Tuesday, March 18. Game time is set for 5 p.m. on Jack Horenberger Field.
The Titans go into Tuesday's game with a 5-6 record, with five of those games played last week down in Fort Myers, Fla. IWU participated in the Gene Cusic Classic where it faced five teams and finished with a 2-3 record on the week.
Illinois Wesleyan last took on Alfred State College, Friday, March 14 where the Green and White narrowly fell to the Pioneers, 5-4. Junior Cole Shamhart (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) was the starting pitcher on the mound, pitching for five innings and adding two strikeouts. Senior
Cade Tomhave (Pittsfield, Ill.-Pittsfield) went two-for-three on the game and tacked on a run batted in.
In IWU's two wins, the Titans outscored its opponents 25-5, beating Baruch College 20-3, and taking down Skidmore College 5-2. Senior Justin Gadomski (Schaumburg, Ill.-Schaumburg) finished five-for-five in the game against Baruch, including four runs, and five runs batted in.
On the season, junior Gage Wolfe (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) is leading in batting percentage at .478. Closely behind him is Tomhave with a .471. For pitchers, junior Jake Pullam (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) sits atop the leaderboard with a 2.40 ERA. Pullam is at a perfect 3-0 this season.
The Titans and the Panthers will meet for the first time in program history. Principia is 2-8 on the season and has seen a five game losing streak, as the Panthers look for their first win since March 1.
