O'Neill Leads Titans as Women’s Golf Completes Day on in California

Titans fourth in seven-team field

PALM DESERT, Calif. - In a seven-team field that includes two top-20 ranked Division II teams, the 18th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team sits tied for fourth after 18 holes at the Augustana (SD) Spring Fling at Desert Willow Golf Resort. The Titans carded an opening round 332 and have three inside the top-20 individually. 

Senior Jacque O'Neill (Harbor Springs, Mich.-Harbor Springs), playing as an individual, posted the lowest score of the day for the Green and White. O'Neill, who birdied the par-four No. 7, finished seven-over and holds a share of seventh-place after one day.

Freshman Gigi Zera (Glenview, Ill.-Loyola Academy) notched a birdie on the ninth-hole and ranks tied for 12th with a score of 81. Senior Jadyn Spinks (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) is in 16th at 82.

Fifthteenth-ranked Rollins leads the field with a score of 306, with No. 16 Saint Leo second at 318. Vanguard is in third, four strokes ahead of IWU and Augie, at 328. Saint Leo's Olivia Deakins holds a three-stroke lead on the player leaderboard at one-under, 71. 

Second round action gets underway tomorrow, March 14, beginning at 8:05 a.m. PT. Senior Macy Ludwig (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony) is the first Titan off the tee with a tee time of 8:55 a.m. PT.
