Men’s Tennis Falters to St. Thomas (Texas)

IWU opens spring break trip with 5-2 loss

GULF SHORES, Ala. - Beginning its spring break trip in Gulf Shores, Ala., the Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team fell to University of St. Thomas (Texas), 5-2, Monday, March 10. With the loss, IWU stumbles to 2-5, while UST improves to 4-1.

Juniors Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) and Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) had a strong showing for the Green and White in the contest. The duo secured the win at No. 1 doubles to begin the match with a 6-2 victory. The other flights went in favor of the Celts, resulting in a one point decision for UST.

In the No. 1 singles spot, Turnbull cruised to a victory behind set scores of 6-1, 6-0. Vigneri followed at No. 2 singles, as he took both of his sets, 6-1. St. Thomas won the last four singles spots to take the match, 5-2.

Illinois Wesleyan returns to action tomorrow, March 11, at 8 a.m., as the Titans play Belhaven University. Results will be posted on iwusports.com upon the completion of the match.
