Men’s Tennis Hosts Lawrence for Home Opener

First serve scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - For the first time in the 2024-25 season, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis will play in the friendly confines of its home facility, Evergreen Racquet Club, as the Titans (0-3) host Lawrence University Friday night, Feb. 7. First serve is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

IWU makes its home debut after falling on the road in Crawfordsville, Ind. to host Wabash College, 6-1, and in a neutral site to Division II Cedarville University, 7-0, Saturday, Feb. 1. IWU's lone point against the Little Giants (1-0) came at No. 5 singles, as junior Griffin Hammond (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) notched a win with scores of 7-6(6) and 6-2 in his sets. Hammond and sophomore Chase Tomecki (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove South) also collected a win in doubles in the match, winning 6-4 in the No. 3 slot, but Wabash took the other two flights in paired play to take the one-point decision. The win marked the first doubles victory in Tomecki's career.

The Titans will take on Lawrence (2-2) for the third time, with the limited series dating back to 2009. Illinois Wesleyan owns the 2-0 edge against the Vikings, including the most recent meeting Feb. 3, 2024. The Green and White walked away with a 9-0 victory, securing its first win of the season on opening day. LU comes to town off a 4-3 win over University of Northwestern (Minn.) Saturday, Feb. 1.
