Baseball Heads Down to St. Louis for Series with WashU

Double header Saturday, followed by single game Sunday

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team will play its next three games in St. Louis, Mo. for a weekend series with Washington University in St. Louis. Saturday-Sunday March 1-2. The Titans and the Bears will play a doubleheader on Saturday following a single game on Sunday, all played at Kelly Field. 

The Green and White is coming off a 2-1 weekend where IWU took on a doubleheader against Grinnell College, and a single game against Greenville University. The Titans won the first game against Grinnell 16-5, but were dealt a 12-4 loss in game two. Bouncing back, Illinois Wesleyan grabbed a 10-4 victory over Greenville. 

Junior Jack Flagg (River Forest, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) snagged the season's first homerun in his first at bat of the season. Later in game one, senior Justin Gadomski (Schaumburg, Ill.-Schaumburg) hit his first home run. The Titans also set a new single-game doubles record, recording 11 doubles against the Pioneers. Senior Brady Hartman (Milan, Ill.-Sherrard) earned his first win of the season on the mound. 

Game three saw IWU's second win of the season against Greenville scoring 10 runs to the Panthers four. The Green and White scored all of its runs in the first five innings, taking an early lead and not letting up. Junior Jake Pullam (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) received his first win of the young season putting his record to 1-0 on the bump. 

IWU and WashU have a long standing history dating back to 1990. The Titans lead the all-time series record, 34-32, over the Bears, with IWU winning the series last season going 2-1. Illinois Wesleyan swept the doubleheader March 2, 2024. Then-junior Dalen Banks (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield) snagged the win in the first game with Gadomski homering. Illinois Wesleyan won 9-5 in the first game before beating WashU 7-0 in the second game that day. Then-sophomore Cole Shamhart (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) claimed a win on the mound throwing six strikeouts in six innings. The Bears avoided the sweep with a 12-3 win over the Titans in the series finale.
