MEQUON, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's wrestling team defeated Concordia University Wisconsin, 25-23, Friday, Dec. 5 for its first dual win of the season. The win boosts the Titans to 1-4 on the year and 1-4 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while the Falcons slide to 0-3 (0-2 CCIW). Illinois Wesleyan picked up wins at 125, 133, 141, 157, and 184 pounds to overcome the Falcons.
Freshman Brady Mouser (Bloomington, Ill.-Tri Valley) put IWU on the board at 125 pounds with a 16-0 technical fall over Elijah Torres. Fellow freshman 133 pounder
Tyson Zvonar (Frankfort, Ill.- Lincoln-Way East) followed with a 6-5 decision over Anastacio Martinez. Junior
Austin Johnston (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) needed only 1:20 to pin Noah Henderson. The 141 pounder's pin gave the Green and White a 14-0 advantage.
CUW cracked the scoreboard with a pin at 149 pounds to make it 14-6. However, freshman 157 pounder Silas Oberholtzer (Lake Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) got the six points back with a pin of Tyson Skubal.
The Falcons collected victories at 165 and 174 pounds to cut the team score down to 20-13. Sophomore Lucas Blanton (Dixon, Ill.- Amboy) gave the Green and White critical insurance with a 18-1 technical fall over Kyle Sorensen to put Illinois Wesleyan up 25-13 heading into the final two bouts. CUW took the last two weight classes, but the deficit was too much to overcome, as the Titans secured the 25-23 decision.
The Titans are back in action, Saturday, Dec. 13, at the North Central Invitational. Action from Naperville, Ill., is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
