Men’s Hoops Topples Kenyon to Win Turner Classic

Titans continue strong start, move to 5-0

ALBION, Mich. - The 16th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team picked up a convincing win over Kenyon College Saturday, Nov. 22, to win the Coach Mike Turner College Classic hosted by Albion College. The Titans rolled to 5-0 with an 89-59 victory over the Owls (3-2).

Sophomore Noah Cleveland (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) popped off for 20 points and 16 rebounds in just 22 minutes, while senior Karlo Colak (Glencoe, Ill.-New Trier) and junior Brady Kuehl (St. Louis, Mo.-Parkway West) added 16 and 10 points, respectively, with Kuehl tacking on a career-high eight rebounds. Junior Mason Funk (Normal, Ill.-University High) notched seven points, six assists, five boards, and two steals in the win. In all, seven Titans scored seven-or-more points.

The Titans continued their trend of torching opposing defenses, shooting 56.7 percent from the field overall (38-of-67). IWU hit 9-of-18 three-pointers and made 4-of-6 free throws. The Owls were held to 22-of-68 from the floor. Kenyon connected on 10 three-pointers, while going 5-for-7 at the charity stripe.

Illinois Wesleyan owned the glass, 46-32, despite KC's 12-10 edge in offensive boards. IWU's depth continues to be on display as the Titans bench outscored the Owls, 41-29. The Green and White also led in points in the paint (52-24), second-chance points (15-12), and fastbreak scoring (10-3).

Kenyon scored the first bucket of the game for its one and only lead of the day as junior Casen Lawrence (St. Louis, Mo.-Westminster Christian) answered with a triple on the other end. Back-to-back layups polished off a seven-point IWU run and put the Titans ahead, 7-2, three and a half minutes into the contest.

A pull-up jumper from Kuehl a minute later started off another Green and White run as Colak hit a pair of layups and junior Brady Ruggles (Wheaton, Ill.-Danville) converted a jumper to extend the lead to double-digits, 15-5, with 13:14 on the clock.

Illinois Wesleyan continued to build its lead, eventually using a three-pointer from Colak to carry a 45-27 lead into halftime. IWU connected on nearly 65 percent of its shots over the first 20 minutes, including a 5-of-8 effort from distance.

In the second half, the Titans remained in control to win its second weekend tournament of the season.

Illinois Wesleyan returns home for its final home game of the 2025 calendar year next Saturday, Nov. 29, against University of Wisconsin-Stout. Tipoff is set for 12 p.m. inside the Shirk Center.
