BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team treks to Waukesha, Wis. Saturday, Oct. 25 for a pivotal College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin battle against Carroll University. Match time is set for 5 p.m. at Schneider Stadium and will serve as the front half of a doubleheader with the Titan men's squad.

Carroll and IWU (7-7-2) are currently deadlocked in the all-important sixth-spot in the CCIW standings. Each with seven league points, the Pioneers sit 2-4-1 in the conference, while the Green and White hold a 2-3-1 CCIW record. Saturday's match will serve as the regular season finale for the Pios, while the Titans travel to Decatur, Ill. after Saturday's match for a contest with Millikin University Wednesday, Oct. 29 to wrap up the regular season. With a win in either match, IWU would claim its spot in the CCIW Tournament.

Illinois Wesleyan recently fought to a 2-1 loss against CCIW leader North Central College at Neis Field Wednesday, Oct. 22. After giving up two NCC goals in the first period, sophomore goalkeeper Vanessa Gray (Burlington, Ontario, Canada-Dr. Frank J. Hayden) held the Cardinals scoreless in the final 45 minutes. Junior Ava Mapes (Golden, Colo.-Lakewood) scored the Titans' lone goal in the second period, as IWU nearly tied up the game in the final minutes, giving NCC one of its closest games in league play.

With four goals and 11 points in league play, Mapes sits second in the CCIW in both categories. In her breakout junior season, Mapes has scored nine points for the Titans in the past four games. In between the pipes, Gray ranks third in the league with 36 saves in six conference games.

The Pios, who are an even 5-5-5 on the season, look to break a two-game losing skid on their home turf Saturday against the Titans. Carroll most recently dropped a 3-1 contest against Wheaton, Wednesday Oct. 22. The Pioneers two league wins have come against Augustana, Oct. 4, and Millikin, Oct. 11.

In the all-time series, the Green and White hold a 7-4-2 advantage over the Pios. Last season, Carroll ran unblemished through CCIW play, claiming its first regular season league championship in program history. The Pioneers shutout IWU a season ago, 2-0, to round out their historic regular season run.
