Women’s Soccer Celebrates Senior Day Against Elmhurst

Match time scheduled for 11 a.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team continues its homestand Saturday, Oct. 18 with an early afternoon match against College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opponent Elmhurst University at Neis Field. Saturday's contest will serve as senior day for the Titans, as the match is set to get underway at 11 a.m. with senior day festivities scheduled prior to kickoff. 

The careers of the four Titan seniors, Maya Flemming (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge), Jenna Gravitt (Morton, Ill.-Morton), Bree Cordray (Bloomington, Ill.-University High), and Kayley Carew (Peoria, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame), will be celebrated prior to kickoff. 

Saturday's contest carries major CCIW standings implications, as IWU and Elmhurst are deadlocked in sixth-place in the league standings with four points apiece. The Titans are 6-6-2 on the season, and 1-2-1 in league play, while the Bluejays are 9-4-2 overall, and 1-3-1 in conference play. 

Through four games of the CCIW slate, junior Ava Mapes (Golden, Colo.-Lakewood) sits at fourth in the conference in points with seven on three goals and an assist. Mapes' three goals rank second in the league. Sophomore goalkeeper Vanessa Gray (Burlington, Ontario, Canada-Dr. Frank J. Hayden) ranks third in the conference with 23 saves in four games. 

The Titans most recently blanked Augustana College Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Neis Field, 3-0. Sophomore Liza Wiley (Bloomington, Ind.-Home School) scored two goals early in the second period, marking the fourth multi-goal game of her career and first this season. Mapes gave the Titans an insurance goal with less than 10 minutes remaining, as she capitalized on an assist from Gravitt to give the Green and White its first CCIW victory. 

Elmhurst has given up five goals in five CCIW games, boasting the second-best goals against average in the league. The Bluejays most recently battled to a 1-nil loss against league leaders North Central. EU's lone conference win came against Carroll, 2-0, Wednesday, Oct. 1 IWU leads the all-time series against the Bluejays, 23-6-1. Last season, Elmhurst handed the Titans a 1-0 loss in Elmhurst, Ill.
