Men’s Soccer Hosts Elmhurst for Senior Day

Titans will celebrate nine seniors

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer will celebrate senior day Saturday, Oct. 17 as it hosts Elmhurst University at 1:30 p.m at Neis Field. IWU brings a 9-2-2 record into the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin bout along with its 3-1 conference mark.

Illinois Wesleyan will celebrate the careers of seniors Peter Basta (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Plainfield East), Brayden Gehmaehlich (Fort Collins, Colo.-Fossil Ridge), Kalabi Kamau (Alpharetta, Ga.-Marist School), Sam Kedzior (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove), Nick McCully (Peoria, Ill.-Richwoods), Cristian Schmidt (Wichita, Kan.-Northeast Magnet), Jerry Smazil (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove South), Logan Tierney (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community), and Lucas Tran (Carol Stream, Ill.-Glenbard North). The group has captured 30 wins over their time as Titans and played a pivotal role in the program's first-ever CCIW Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023.

The Titans were successful Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Augustana College with a 2-1 victory behind a big offensive showing from Kamau. The senior defenseman recorded two assists on a pair of free kicks in which he delivered the boot. Joining Kamau with multiple points was freshman Hunter Reinberg (Washington, Mo.-St. Francis Borgia) with a goal in the 11th minute and an assist in the 67th. Senior goalkeeper Kedzior stopped four shots as Augie fired five on goal, with just one coming in the second half.

Offensively for the Titans, junior Ryder Coleman (Bannockburn, Ill-Deerfield) and sophomore Ben Lyons (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) share the lead for points with 12. Lyons narrowly etches Coleman in the goals department with five compared to his four. Junior Matthew Perchik (New Trier, Ill.- Glenview) follows closely behind with four goals and 10 points. 

Kedzior remains at the top of the CCIW in goals against average at 1.015, and his two shutouts rank second. The senior keeper has recorded all nine wins for the Titans while compiling a .794 save percentage. 

Elmhurst ventures to Bloomington, Ill. in the midst of a three-game losing skid and a 4-9-2 record. The Bluejays sit in eighth in the CCIW with three points and a 1-4 mark. Freshman Klaus Gartner is one of three Bluejays with three goals, but leads EU with nine points adding three assists. Junior Niyen Ruffin patrols the net and has allowed 23 goals. He has garnered 49 saves for a .681 save percentage.

In the 20-year history of the matchup, Illinois Wesleyan holds a slim 10-8-4 advantage, with both teams owning a pair of three-game win streaks. The last time the two matched up they battled to a 1-1 draw in Elmhurst, Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2024. The last Titan victory came on Kedzior's first career shutout in 2022 at Neis Field in a 1-nil nailbitter.
