Box Score ROCK ISLAND, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team continued its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin success Wednesday Oct. 15 with a hard fought 2-1 triumph over Augustana College. IWU raised its record to 9-2-2 overall and 3-1-0 in conference play garnering another two points to sit at eight. Another road win keeps the Titans unbeaten away from Neis Field with a 5-0-1 mark.

Illinois Wesleyan opened the scoring in the 11th minute of the match. IWU threatened with an initial run down the sideline by junior Joey Rodino (Palatine, Ill-Fremd), but his cross developed into a whistle, giving Augie a free kick from its own box. Senior captain Jerry Smazil (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove South) and Cassius Sharp (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) converged on the Vikings' counter attempt, ultimately taking back possession and earning IWU a free kick of its own just inside midfield. Senior Kalabi Kamau (Alparratte, Ga.-Marist School) took the reset and booted a cross over the backline of Augie that found a wide open Hunter Reinberg (Washington, Mo.-St. Francis Borgia) making a run towards the far post. With nobody but the keeper in front of him, the freshman slipped a shot inside the post for a 1-nil lead.

Augustana drew the score even at one when Javi Landen won a one-on-one battle down the sideline and sent a crosser to Toby Dottin who made a move around the defender and shook away senior Titan goalkeeper Sam Kedzior (Cary, Ill.-Cary-Grove) for the goal.

The second score from the Titans came similar to the first. 20 minutes after Augie tied it, a foul from the Vikings 40 yards from the goal set up a free kick in the offensive zone for the IWU. Once again, Kamau took the free kick, slang it from left to right to Reinberg who headed it over to senior Logan Tierney (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) who fielded it off his chest and used his left foot to hook it away from the keeper.

The rest of the match was commanded by the Titan defense including stalwart goalkeeper, Kedzior. Each team traded chances to score with Augie having the last opportunity. The Vikings posted the last two opportunities, but were both thwarted by Kedzior. The Titan defense allowed just five shots with four being saved by the senior keeper.

The Titans offense fired away 20 shots with 12 of them on goal. The Augie keeper recorded six saves and the team with four. IWU gained an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Illinois Wesleyan will return home for Senior Day Saturday, Oct. 18 against Elmhurst with kickoff slated for 3:30 following the women's game. Senior Day festivities will be held prior to kickoff honoring the nine Titan seniors.
