BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's wrestling teams will travel to Eureka College for a pair of duals against the Red Devils Friday, Jan. 10. The evening's first bout is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The men's squad is coming off a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin triangular with Carthage College and Milwaukee School on Engineering Monday, Jan. 6 in Milwaukee, Wis. The Titans scored their first points in dual action but ultimately fell to Carthage, 41-14, and to MSOE 42-10.

Sophomore Austin Johnston (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) and freshmen Ameer Alamawi (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central) and Evan Carel (Hamilton, Ill.-Hamilton) claimed their first CCIW bout wins of their careers Monday night.

Johnston scored the first five points for IWU with a 16-0 technical fall against Carthage in the 141-pound match. Alamawi added three more points to the board with a 25-18 decision over Carthage at 149 pounds. Carel, moving up and making his collegiate debut at 157 pounds, added six points off a Carthage pin (4:19). Carel went on to score four points against MSOE with a 13-5 major decision, while Alamawi picked up the six-point forfeit for IWU's 10 points.

For the second straight installment of the National Wrestling Coaches Association regional rankings, Johnston landed sixth on the Region 6 141-pound list.

The IWU women have yet to compete in the new year as the Titans last competed at the North Central College Invitational, Dec. 15. Freshmen Jurdan Tyler (Champaign, Ill.-Urbana), Vanessa Gray (Burlington, Ontario, Canada-Dr. Frank J. Hayden), and Sifa Feruzi (Denver, Colo.-Macomb Senior) represented the Green and White at the highly competitive tournament. Tyler posted a 1-2 record in Naperville, Ill. with a pin in her opening match, while Gray made her collegiate debut going 1-2 on the day with a pin in her second bout.

Eureka enters Friday's duals coming off of the Augustana Viking Duals, Jan. 4, where the women's team turned in a 1-3 record on the day and the men finished 0-2.

Competition at the Reagan Athletic Complex is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10. Final results will be posted on the men's and women's wrestling schedule pages of iwusports.com upon the conclusion of the meet.
