EUREKA, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's wrestling teams took on Eureka College Friday, Jan. 10 as the men fell 40-17 to the Red Devils while freshman Sifa Feruzi (Denver, Colo.-Macomb Senior) was IWU's sole competitor on the women's side.

IWU's men fell to 0-5 in dual action while the women's team dropped its first dual match 34-1 to sit 0-1 on the year.

Feruzi made her fourth mat appearance Friday night but ultimately fell to Eureka's Alex Parks in a 12-2 technical fall.

On the men's side, freshman Evan Carel (Hamilton, Ill.-Hamilton) continued his undefeated streak since moving up to 157 pounds as he took down Colton Davis with a 19-4 technical fall.

After a three point takedown and an escape gave freshman Lucas Blanton (Dixon, Ill.-Amboy) a 6-3 lead, the Dixon, Ill. native pinned his opponent to notch the first win, and pin (2:45), of his collegiate career.

Senior Bobby Conroy (St. Louis, Mo.-St. Louis University High) won the 184-pound bout by forfeit to round out IWU's 17 points on the night.

Senior Omar AlQammaz (Orland Park, Ill.-Victor J. Andrew) wrestled a 157-pound exhibition match where he picked up his third career pin.

The Illinois Wesleyan men's and women's wrestling teams will head to Mount Vernon, Iowa next, as the Titans compete at Cornell College's Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational, Jan. 18.
