Women’s Soccer Heads North for Midwest Tournament

Titans to play Wartburg Saturday and UW-La Crosse Sunday

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team will travel to River Forest, Ill. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7-8, for a two-game weekend at the Midwest Tournament. The Titans will face Wartburg College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. before going head-to-head with No. 7 University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Sunday at 12 p.m.

The weekend marks the third straight year IWU has played in the Midwest Tournament, with Dominican University serving as this year's host. Although the Titans will not cross paths with DU this weekend, the Stars are set to make the trip to Bloomington towards the end of the month.

As Illinois Wesleyan adapts to a new roster, its most recent competitions saw the Titans fall to Simpson College 2-0, Friday, Aug. 30 on the road before trailing Trine University 1-0, Sunday, Sept. 1 at home. Freshman Grace Kiewiet (Leawood, Kan.-Notre Dame de Sion) played all 180 minutes in the two matches, totaling 10 saves on the weekend, including five stops against Simpson who was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches' annual preseason poll released Aug. 6.

Since 2021, IWU has had a habit of playing Wartburg and UW-La Crosse in back-to-back days. The Green and White have faced Wartburg only three times in its history with the Orange and Black owning an undefeated series. A season ago, the Knights hosted the Midwest Tournament and claimed a 1-0 victory over the Titans on the opening day. Wartburg is 0-2 heading into the weekend having dropped one-goal contests to St. Olaf College and Saint Mary's University (Minn.).

IWU shares a slightly longer history with UW-La Crosse, as the series dates back to the 2017 season. The Titans trail 2-4-1 in the series history with their most recent meeting won by UWL 2-0, Sept. 9, 2023. The Eagles are 2-0 going into the weekend after defeating UW-Superior, 5-0, and College of St. Scholastica (Minn.), 7-1.

Live stream and live stats will be available for both contests and can be found on the women's soccer schedule page of iwusports.com or by clicking here
