Strong Finish Secures Second-Place for Women’s Golf at UW-Whitewater

MADISON, Wis. - Four Titans finished in the top-20 as the eighth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team used birdies late in the final round of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Fall Invite to tie for second Monday, Sept. 23. The Titans carded a final round score of 313, tying for the second-best mark of the day, to jump two spots and finish with a 36-hole score of 628.

In all, four Titans placed in the top-20. Senior Macy Ludwig (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony) carded a final round 78 to finish at 153 for the tournament, tying for sixth. Sophomore Nora Cerroni (Waueksha, Wis.-Waukesha North) turned in a 77 to claim 11th-place at 155, narrowly missing out on the top-10.

Senior Jacque O'Neill (Harbor Springs, Mich.-Harbor Springs) used a pair of birdies to catapult up the 96-player leaderboard on the final day of the tournament. O'Neill jumped 30 spots in the standings and posted IWU's best round of the day, a two-over 74, to earn a share of 13th at 157.

Senior Jadyn Spinks (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) matched O'Neill's movement, fittingly as the duo is often referred to as "the twins," to tie for 18th. Spinks posted a three-over 75 to finish with a score of 159.

No. 15 Centre won the tournament with a two-round total of 611. Illinois Wesleyan (628) and No. 25 Randolph-Macon (628) shared runner up, while 14th-ranked Trinity (Texas) grabbed fourth with a score of 629. Christopher Newport, who led at the start of the day, finished fifth at 630. Centre's Grace Walker maintained her hold on medalist honors, winning the tournament with a three-over 145.

Illinois Wesleyan has a quick turnaround, as the Green and White are right back in action Friday-Saturday, Sept. 27-28, at the Dechert Classic hosted by Millikin University.
