Men’s Soccer Late Game Goal Pushes Titans Past Prairie Fire

Coleman’s sole goal end the game 1-nil

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illnois Welseyan University men's soccer team took a 1-nil victory over Knox College Saturday, Sept. 21 at Neis Field. IWU moves to a 5-0-1 record while the Priarie Fire drops to 2-5-1. This is one of the best starts for men's soccer since the 2012 seasone when the Titans started 6-0 on the season.

The first half was fairley even with IWU and KC with the Titan offense taking 11 shots to Knox's eight, and 8-2 shots on goal in favor of IWU. Junior goalkeeper Sam Kedzior (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) totaled two saves to keep the game scoreless at the end of the half.

The second half started off slow for both teams with no action until the 79 minute mark. Junior Nick McCully (Peoria, Ill.-Richwoods) took the throw in into the box with a quick header from sophomore Matthew Perchik (Glen View, Ill.-New Trier) and a tapped ball by sophomore Faheem Mujahid (Saint Robert, Mo.-Waynesville) set up the offense for the Green and White. Knox wasn't ready for a side swipe of a kick to come from sophomore Ryder Coleman (Bannockburn, Ill.-Deerfiel) to put the ball straight to the back right of the net to bring the Titans to a 1-nil lead to end the game in favor of the Titans.

The Green and White ended the game with 26 total shots, 14 shots on goal and took 11 corner kicks. Kedzior ended the game with three total saves and faced three shots on goal.

IWU will be on the road next Wednesday, Sept. 25 against Lake Forest College. Kick off is set for 4 p.m. on Mohr Field.
