Turnbull & Vigneri Complete Day One of ITA Regional

Titans return to action Saturday morning, Sept. 21

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Illinois Wesleyan University's men's tennis juniors Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) and Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) opened their weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional, hosted by Washington University in St. Louis, Friday, Sept. 20. 

Playing in the doubles tournament, the duo fell to Anderson University's Martin Suarez and Pedro Alves Sette, 8-6. Falling into the consolation bracket, Turnbull and Vigneri faced Eli Bartek and Carson Fisher from Webster University. The pair came back to win 8-4, staying alive in doubles action. A bye in the consolation round of 32 put the duo in the round of 16, facing a pair from Wabash College, Cole Shifferly and Tharakesh Ashokar, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 21, at 8 a.m.

Vigneri opened the singles portion of the tournament against Jake Fascione from Hanover College, claiming a victory behind set scores of 6-4, 6-2. In the round of 64, the Casper, Wyo., native fell to sixth-seeded Emil Grantcharov from University of Chicago, falling 6-0, 6-1. 

Opening the tournament against Anderson's Arturo Mendoza, Turnbull narrowly fell in the first round. After winning the first set 6-2, Turnbull dropped the second, 6-4, before being edged out in the tiebreaker, 13-11. He awaits his opponent in the second round of the consolation bracket, set to take place at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
