Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Titans Keep Streak Alive with Shutout of Scots

Perchik & Kennedy Send Titans to Win Over Monmouth

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team continued its win streak Wednesday, Sept. 18, as the Titans shutout Monmouth College, 3-nil, to match its best start since the 2012 season. The Green and White took the win over the Scots to boost its record to 4-0-1, while Monmouth fell to 2-4-1.

The Titans struggled to score in the first half, taking 12 shots to the Scots two but eventually pulled out a goal on the first penalty kick of the season taken by junior Logan Tierney (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) at the 40-minute mark.

The second half was dominated by sophomore Matthew Perchik (Glenview, Ill.-New Trier), who took a brace to the back of the net to end the game 3-nil. Perchik's first goal came at the 77-minute mark as senior Devyn Kennedy (Earlville, Ill.-Earlville) set it up with a kick 25 yards out. Kennedy put the ball over the defenders to give Perchik a one-on-one opportunity with the Scots goalie. A swift kick over the goalkeeper's head bounced the ball right over the line and into the back of the net to set the score 2-0.

Perchik and Kennedy connected once more, this time in the 84th minute. An initial cross found Kennedy on the far post, but his header was saved off the goalkeeper's gloves, where Perchik waited in  perfect position to nail the ball straight into the back of the net off the rebound.

Junior Sam Kedzior (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) ended the game with three total saves and 90 minutes between the pipes. The Titans took 27 shots to the Scots 6.

IWU is back home Saturday, Sept. 21 to compete against Knox College. The game is set for 3:30 p.m. on Neis Field.
