Men’s Tennis Meets Wartburg in Neutral Site Contest

Titans will face Knights in Rock Island, Ill.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team will meet Wartburg College for a neutral site match in Rock Island, Ill., Sunday, Sept. 15. Action is set to begin at 11 a.m. at Lincoln Park, the home of the Augustana College Vikings tennis teams. 

Illinois Wesleyan enters Sunday's match after cracking open the 2024-25 season at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Fall Invitational. The two day tournament, held Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 7-8, saw sophomore Chase Tomecki (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove South), and juniors Griffin Hammond (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) and Sebastian Rasquin (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) make it to the third-place match in their respective flights. Tomecki and Hammond qualified for the third-place meeting in the singles flight six bracket. Hammond won the battle, 6-2, 6-3. Rasquin recorded a fourth-place finish in the singles flight seven.

In the doubles portion of the invitational, juniors Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) and Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) posted a third-place finish in doubles flight one, going 2-1 on the weekend. 

The Green and White will meet Wartburg for just the second time. The Knights took the inaugural meeting, 7-2, Feb. 12, 2022. The match will serve as the season opener for Wartburg.
