Schmitt Added to Men’s Hoops Staff

Comes to IWU from Illinois State

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University Head Men's Basketball Coach Ron Rose announced the addition of Ryan Schmitt to his staff ahead of the 2024-25 season Wednesday, Aug. 7. 

Schmitt comes to IWU after a four-year career that spanned stops at Illinois State University and Des Moines Area Community College. He graduated from ISU with a degree in interdisciplinary studies this past May, after playing in 45 games for the Redbirds.

Prior to his time at ISU, Schmitt scored 723 points for an average of 12.3 points per game, while grabbing 410 rebounds (6.9 per game) and 2.3 blocked shots per game – 136 over his two seasons at DMACC. During his second season, en route to helping DMACC win a NJCAA Division II National Title, he was one of two players on his squad named to the All-Region First Team. He had 69 blocked shots over 26 games, which was the second-most in the country, while his average of 2.7 blocked shots per game was fourth highest. The championship game saw him score 13 points with 11 rebounds and three blocked shots – his third double-double of the national tournament which helped him earn All-Tournament Team honors. 

He was named to the All-Region second team, in addition to earning Third Team NJCAA All-Academic Team honors and First Team Academic All-Region accolades. In the Region XI Tournament, he also earned a spot on the All-Tournament squad. 

Schmitt officially began his role Aug. 1.
