Men’s Golf, Men’s Lacrosse See CSC Academic All-District Nods

Hart, Beaubien, Clifford, and Pohl advance to Academic All-America Ballot

GREENWOOD, Ind. - Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf and men's lacrosse saw a combined six student-athletes named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District At-Large team, announced by the organization Tuesday, June 25. Golf landed four on the team, while lacrosse picked up two accolades. 

Representing golf, fifth-year Bobby Beaubien (Barrington, Ill.-Barrington), juniors Quinn Clifford (Chicago, Ill.-Brother Rice) and Griffin Pohl (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township), and sophomore Juney Bai (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central) all earned the award. Clifford picks up his second Academic All-District honor, while Beaubien, Pohl, and Bai all earn it for the first time in their careers. Senior Ethan Hart (Littleton, Colo.-J.K. Mullen) and junior Sam Weinberg (Highwood, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) of men's lacrosse round out the Titans on the list. Hart collects his second Academic All-District honor, while Weinberg earns his first after a breakthrough junior season. 

Beaubien, Clifford, Pohl, and Hart were all selected to advance to the Academic All-America ballot. 

Compiling Illinois Wesleyan's best scoring average of the season, Beaubien, a marketing major, averaged 72.8 strokes per round over 28 rounds and 11 tournaments to earn PING Third Team All-America honors, as well as adding all-region honors to his impressive collegiate resume. He tallied a single-round low of 67, while totaling three top-five finishes and five top-10 placements. The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Golfer of the Year, Beaubien won both the CCIW Preview and the CCIW Championship. He added a runner-up finish at the Millikin Butts Classic. He was also recognized as the CCIW's Golfer of the Week once this season.

A business major, Pohl was IWU's top finisher at the NCAA Division III National Championship, tying for third to mark the best national finish by a Titan since 2012 and earning All-American status. The Western Springs, Ill. native posted the lowest single round and 72-hole scoring total by a Titan at the national tournament ever. Pohl posted a scoring average of 73.0 over 28 rounds and 11 tournaments. He totaled 13 rounds of par-or-better with five top-five finishes. Pohl placed third at the Millikin Butts Classic, tied for second at the IWU Invitational and the Take Back the Night Challenge, and finished third at the CCIW Championship. In addition to being named a PING All-America Honorable Mention, Pohl garnered all-region and All-CCIW honors, as well as two CCIW Golfer of the Week accolades this season. 

Majoring in business, Clifford, a CSC Academic All-America Third Team honoree last season, earned the Academic All-District honor for the second straight season. Competing in 11 tournaments, Clifford turned in five top-10 finishes with a 73.2 stroke average over 28 rounds. The junior totaled seven rounds of par-or-better. Clifford was named the CCIW Golfer of the Week twice this season and rounded out the Titans' sweep of the top-five placings at the CCIW Championship to earn all-conference accolades. He was the recipient of the CCIW Elite 26 award and was a PING All-Region honoree for the second time in his career. 

Bai, a business major, collects his first Academic All-District honor after his sophomore campaign. Playing in 28 rounds and 11 tournaments, Bai posted an average of 73.5 strokes per round en route to his second PING All-Region honor of his young career. He recorded two top-five finishes, three top-10 finishes, and eight top-20 placements, posting 10 rounds of par-or-better. Bai earned All-CCIW honors with a fourth-place finish behind a score of even par (216) at the league championship and placed tied for 73rd at the NCAA Division III Championship with a 72-hole score of 299. 

Earning his second Academic All-District honor, Hart was a force in the classroom and on the field, majoring in accounting and minoring in finance. The senior defender had the third-most caused turnovers on the team with 21 and the fourth-most ground balls with 48 scoops. Hart was named an All-CCIW Second Team honoree and was recognized as the CCIW Elite 26 Award recipient for the second-straight season, awarded to the student-athlete with the highest GPA competing in the CCIW Championship game. He was one of three Titans to be named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Scholar All-American team. 

Weinberg, a neuroscience major, collected his first Academic All-District honor after a breakthrough junior campaign. A Second Team All-CCIW honoree, Weinberg appeared in 17 games and started 11 for the Green and White, helping guide the Titans to a CCIW Regular Season and Tournament Championship, as well as advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The junior attacker finished second on the team in goals with 35, as well as second in man-up goals with 11, tied for the 11th-most man-up goals in Division III for the season. Weinberg posted 45 points, 41 ground balls, and eight caused turnovers during his junior season. 

Beaubien, Clifford, Pohl, and Hart will advance to the Academic All-America ballot, with the three teams being announced Wednesday, July 17.
