Women’s Golf Trio Garners WGCA All-Region Status

Titans tee off at the national championship at 9:10 a.m. ET

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Women's Golf Coaches Association dolled out its postseason awards Monday night, May 20, at a pre-championship banquet in Lexington, Ky. The Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team was well-represented as seniors Emma Thorman (Macomb, Ill.-Macomb) and Lexi Onsrud (Normal, Ill.-University High) along with junior Macy Ludwig (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony) earned All-Region accolades.

Thorman, the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Women's Golfer of the Year, leads the Titans with an average of 75.2 strokes per round over 22.5 rounds and 10 tournaments. She has posted five top-five finishes, seven top-10 placements, and secured a top-20 effort in nine of 10 events en route to all-region honors for the third straight season. Thorman tallied three rounds of par-or-better. She won the CCIW individual championship and was a two-time CCIW Golfer of the Week selection.

Onsrud adds additional awards to an already lengthy resume, picking up all-region status for the third time in her career. In her final season donning the Green and White, Onsrud has played in 10 tournaments, compiling an average of 76.0 strokes per round. She has notched four-top-five finishes and six top-10 efforts this season with three rounds of par-or-better.

Garnering all-region status for the second straight season, Ludwig competed in 10 tournaments posting an average of 76.4 strokes over 22.5 rounds of play. She tied for the team lead with three rounds of par-or-better and placed in the top-five in three tournaments. Ludwig was a two-time CCIW Golfer of the Week honoree. She topped the 114-player field at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling, April 13-14, with a two-day score of three-under 141 (67-74) to set the program's 18 and 36-hole scoring records.

Illinois Wesleyan tees off at the NCAA Division III National Championship today, May 21, beginning at 9:10 a.m. ET. The Titans will play the opening round of the tournament alongside Redlands and Washington & Lee.

About the Women's Golf Coaches Association
The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 750 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
