Men’s Tennis Heads to Decatur for Thursday Clash

Action is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Fairview Park Tennis Complex

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Coming off a sweep over Elmhurst University Saturday, March 30, to open College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team will travel to Millikin University for a Thursday afternoon contest April 4. Action is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Fairview Park Tennis Complex in Decatur, Ill.

The Titans took No. 1 and 2 doubles, while the Bluejays forfeited at No. 3 to close out paired play. Sophomore Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) and senior Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows) notched an 8-1 win at No. 1, while sophomore Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) and junior Zeke Cross (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield) won 8-0 at No. 2.

In singles action, Turnbull, Vigneri, McCoy, freshman Thad Dillow (Effingham, Ill.-Effingham), and sophomore Griffin Hammond (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) claimed victories at No. 1-5 singles, respectively. Senior Jordan Sibley-Diggs (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) wrapped up the scoring with a win via forfeit at No. 6.

Dating back to 1990, IWU and Millikin have faced off 22 times, with the Titans owning a 13-9 advantage in the series. The Big Blue took the last meeting, happening in the CCIW Tournament Quarterfinals, taking it 5-1. Turnbull and Carter Burk picked up the lone win, taking it 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. MU enters the contest 1-1 overall, taking its most recent match 6-0 over Southwestern Illinois College Saturday, March 2.
