BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team is ready for a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin doubleheader against the Big Blue of Millikin University Saturday, April 27. First game is set to start at 12 p.m.

IWU is going into Saturday with a record of 22-9 overall and 11-3 in the CCIW, whereas MU is sitting at a 21-12 record overall with an 11-3 record in the conference. Both teams are tied for first in the CCIW standings alongside North Park University.

Most recently, IWU played conference foe Carthage College this past week and took another CCIW win beating the Firebirds 4-0. Millikin is coming off a 7-0 win over Augustana College.

Sophomore Cole Shamhart (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) threw the first six innings in the Carthage game, striking out a career-high 12, while senior Jacob Cyrus (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South) tallied five strikeouts while pitching the final three innings. The combined 17 Ks are tied for third-most in program history and are the most by IWU's pitching staff since fanning 17 against North Central, April 18, 2014. With the win, Shamhart bumped his record to 8-0 on the year, while Cyrus collected his second save of the season.

IWU outhit Carthage, 9-6. Cyrus finished the game with two RBIs while junior Justin Gadomski (Schaumburg, Ill.-Schaumburg) and Perona added one apiece.

The Titans and the Big Blue have met a total of 119 times dating back to 1988 with the Green and White having an upper hand in the all-time series record 80-39. IWU spanned its longest win streak for almost ten years from 2006-2015 where they won 28 in a row, however, IWU and MU's last meeting was in favor of Millikin where they took the 5-3 win.
